The outside of the wheel is carved with the mantra 'Om Mani Padme Hung' (Hail to the Jewel in the Lotus). This is the mantra of Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion. Inside the wheel are scrolls printed with the same mantra. Every time the wheel is turned it releases all of those prayers. Wheel is decorated with traditional coral or turquoise beads.
