A note about bone beads: In the Himalayas, it is typical for large animals such as yak or water buffalo to be used for service, food, clothing, and ritual items. Given the limited amount of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste. These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.
Mala measures approximately 53-55 inches around. Beads are about 12x8mm. As each mala is handmade, tassel color may vary.

My favorite mala from DS! I love how it included the name of the artist who carved all of the beads and made all of them different. It’s a great way to include them in metta. It has a wonderful energy and I love the feel of the beads. I was able to wrap it around my 8” wrist 5 times. It is stiff as it’s new but it will loosen with use. Thank you again, Dharma Shop, for supporting these amazing artists and letting them become part of our practice.
These are everything I hoped. The sting is nice and tight the orange tassel goes nicely with the white bone. The etchings are individual on each bone bead. The time it took to make these I would think was extensive and the name of the maker was a cool little extra. The bones are smooth and feel good against skin. Malas are kinda about whatever practice you put into them but these definitely represent a purpose of remembering everything is impermanent.
I was looking for an item to help me remind me throughout the day of some of the things I meditate about. Recently impermanence has been a topic and looking down seeing this during the day really helps keep some of life’s “problems” in a real perspective.
We order this for our daughter who has a couple of malas and this one is quickly becoming one of her favorites. She likes the texture of the 'beads' and also the fact is little different from all of the ones her friends have. It is a great quality mala at a good price that sets you apart from others.
