Large Antique Style Tibetan Mala Counters

5 reviews   |

These awesome, heavy brass mala counters are made using a mold from an antique set I owned years ago.  We recreated these detailed and bold counters as the cost of antiques in this style have been rising for years.

Bell and dorje are 1 inch long.  Total length of dark brown leather cord is 5 inches.  Ties on with a simple knot at 21 or 27 bead placement on mala.  Handmade in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Beautiful and useful

I have a large Bodhi seed mala I've been using for years on which I do a heavy amount of mantra. Thought it was time to add some counters and these Large Antique Tibetan Mala Counters were perfect. Not only do they dress my old mala up beautifully they're also very functional. Highly recommended.

Nice addition to mala

I added these counters to a wonderful large bodhi mala which they complement quite well. They have a vintage appearance which with the dark leather is quite appealing. Like the previous reviewer, I found the beads slip on one of the strands due to thinner leather and I lose count (I'm using a paper clip.) Understanding these are handmade, perhaps the next batch could select a slightly thicker cut of leather.

I admit that I find most Mala counters to be a bit too small for me to use and these are exactly the size and weight I need. There is one minor problem that I have encountered. The beads are strung on leather and leather will stretch over time especially with beads of this size and weight. As such, I have found that beads will slip thus making it difficult to be sure that the count is correct. As a result I will be restringing the beads with a more stable material. A minor "problem" that is easily correctable. Otherwise, these are exceptional.
