    Donating directly to charities on the ground
    Since the start of the DharmaShop we have been donating to Tibetan, Himalayan and human right charities, as human rights are at the core of our mission. While buying directly from artists is by far the best way to directly support the community in Nepal, sometimes funds are urgently needed to help immigrants and refugees worldwide.

    For over 25 years, our team has worked hand-in-hand with artisans and community partners in the Kathmandu Valley. While our small team is based in Michigan, USA, our team is deeply connected with the artisan families in Nepal, and we maintain continuous, direct contact with them to ensure their safety, support their ongoing work, and stay closely tuned to community needs.

    In addition to our everyday mission of providing fair, consistent work for Himalayan artisans, we maintain long-standing partnerships with trusted organizations like Himalayan Children's Charities (HCC). Through continuous support, we help HCC provide food, shelter, and education to orphaned and at-risk children. During times of crisis and recovery in Nepal, we rely on HCC’s direct updates on the ground to stay informed on local needs and help direct aid where it matters most.

    Our mission is to support Tibetan, Newar and Nepalese artisans and continue to find a market for their hand crafted goods.  We also assist Tibetan and human rights charities with direct financial support.

    Many people ask us why our products do not come from Tibet.  It is not an easy answer.  Tibet is not free.  The products sold and made in what was once a free Tibet are often made in Chinese factories and none of the revenue benefits Tibetans.  We employ Tibetan, Newar and Nepalese artisans who have been involved in creating traditional items for generations.  Our goal is to ensure that these traditional crafts remain viable in the 21st century and beyond by continuing to find markets for these traditional goods.  Please visit the sites below to find out how you can help Tibetans in Tibet and living in exile.
