Inlaid Bone Impermanence Mala

  |
  • 108 bead mala featuring hand carved yak bone beads that are inlaid with pieces of turquoise, coral, brass and copper with magnesite skull spacers.  Each bead is unique!
  • The skull in Buddhism is often recognized as a symbol of impermanence.  This, along with bone beads, allow us to reflect upon the Buddhist teachings of impermanence.
  • They serve as a reminder to live in the present moment; because nothing is permanent, everything is possible.

In the Himalayas, it is typical for large animals such as yak or water buffalo to be used for service, food, clothing, utensils, and ritual items.  Given the limited amount of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste.  These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.

Mala measures approximately 30 inches around with an adjustable knot.  Beads are about 8mm.  Made in Nepal.
