Mala beads are used to help you focus your mind and connect with your inner self. They are used in meditation and prayer, and can also be worn as a piece of jewelry.

Mala beads are typically made from wood, but they can also be made from other materials, such as stone, metal, or crystal. They have 108 beads, plus a larger bead called the guru bead. The beads are strung together on a cord, and the guru bead is usually located at the end of the cord.  DharmaShop also carries a mala bracelet that we call a Wrist Mala.

To use mala beads for meditation, you start by holding the mala in your right hand and resting the guru bead on the middle finger of your left hand. Then, you use your right thumb to move the beads one at a time from the guru bead to the end of the string. As you do this, you silently repeat a mantra, which is a word or phrase that has spiritual significance.

The repetitive movement of the beads and the focus on the mantra help to quiet the mind and promote concentration. Mala beads can also be used for prayer, in which case you would repeat a prayer or petition instead of a mantra.

Mala beads are a simple but powerful tool that can help you to connect with your inner self and achieve a state of peace and tranquility.
