Bone and Skull Impermanence Mala

51   |
  • I have never had such strong positive reactions to a mala before.  I sold one of these right off my neck at a Starbucks one morning.  I wear this mala often and get comments all day long!
  • Features naturally stained water buffalo bone beads with hand carved bone skull beads.
  • This mala serves as a powerful reminder to be here now and to live in the present moment; because nothing is permanent, everything is possible.

My Buddhist practice revolves around impermanence.  We live only in the present moment and it is helpful to remember that nothing lasts.  Skulls are featured prominently in Tibetan symbolism and many of our DharmaShop customers are fond of this reminder that nothing lasts forever.

A note about bone beads:  In the Himalayas, it is typical for large animals such as yak or water buffalo to be used for service, food, clothing, and ritual items.  Given the limited amount of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste.  These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.

Mala measures approximately 34 inches around.  Includes 108 beads that measure about 10mm with 4 skull spacer beads.  Handmade in Nepal.

Beautiful with great energy

This is a beautiful mala and I am extremely pleased that I chose it, although in part I felt it chose me. The finish is wonderful and the weight on my body is solid. The beads are smooth and soft with a luster that is radiant. I very much enjoy the skulls that are throughout as well. It is a beautiful reminder of the impermanence that it is created to represent. I have received many comments on it’s beauty and radiance and have comfort in wearing it as its weight upon me helps me stay in the moment. The craftsmanship is beautiful, the design is brilliant, and the peace from it is wonderful. A truly wonderful piece of artistry that I am grateful to wear on my path. Namaste to the artists.
