Buddhist Reflection Traditional Mala

3 reviews   |

This 108 bead mala features naturally dyed yak bone beads that are inlaid with pieces of turquoise, coral and brass.  It features naga shell and tiger eye spacers with a set of antique style bell and dore mala counters, and is finished with a white metal bell and dorje pendant.  Bone beads allow us to reflect upon the Buddhist teachings of impermanence.  They serve as a reminder to live in the present moment; because nothing is permanent, everything is possible.

In the Himalayas, it is typical for large animals such as yak or water buffalo to be used for service, food, clothing, and ritual items.  Given the limited amount of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste.  These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.

Mala measures approximately 27 inches around.  Bone beads are 11-12mm, tiger eye beads are 12mm, naga shell beads are about 16mm.  Made in Nepal.

A stunning mala

This mala is gorgious, even more beautiful than on the pictures. I like its weight and the contrast between the bright red beads and white naga shell. I find it to be an excellent companion while reciting the mantra and meditating. I totally agree with Dixie's and Russell's opinions in their reviews: this item is a real work of art!

Stunning Mala

I couldn’t decide between this one and the white inlaid one. I bought the inlaid white one first (22 inches won’t fit over my head but great for my practice) and then got this one as it kept calling to me. These pieces are truly works of art. I’m thrilled with how exactly the photos represent every product on the site. It makes it easier to make online purchases that support this family business and Himalayan culture.

Beyond all expectations!

I purchased as a gift for my wife who practices Tibetan Buddhism, it arrived today and is beyond all expectations, gorgeous work of art with practical application for her practice. I cannot wait for her to open the box with this most auspicious gift, pray it lifts her out of nescience spreading peace, love and compassion. Thank you, Namaste
