Fierce Mahakala Bodhi Mala

3 reviews   |
  • DharmaShop founder, Sander Cohen, helped design this 108 bead bodhi seed mala alongside our artisans in Kathmandu.
  • It's made with 108 high quality bodhi seed beads that have been cut on each end, making them flat in the traditional manner.  Finished with a stunning hand carved water buffalo bone Mahakala pendant and a brass dorje charm.
  • Sander actually sourced these incredible Mahakala pendants on a trip to Taiwan and brought them directly to our mala makers in Nepal, creating a truly exclusive DharmaShop design!  We have only a limited quantity of these malas available, so grab one while you can!

Mahakala's, also known as The Great Black One, fierce form scares off evil and protects Himalayan and Tibetan Buddhism.  His image is often seen outside temples and homes in the Himalayas.  Wearing, carrying, or meditating with this mala can help protect you from evil and negativity.

Bodhi seed beads can be used for counting all types of mantras as well as other prayers.  These dark-speckled seed beads have special meaning for all seekers of divine wisdom.  "Bodhi" in Sanskrit means enlightenment; as an "enlightened" seed, many practitioners use these malas for their essence and inherent teachings within each seed.

Mala measures approximately 38 inches around.  Beads are about 14-15mm.  Mahakala pendant is about 0.75 inch.  Made in Nepal.

Exquisite mala

This is my first ever Bodhi seed mala. It's a complement to my sandalwood mala that I also got from Dharma Shop. I'm wearing it right now and it is beautiful and filled with blessings. A little story: I asked my girlfriend whether to get the Mahakala mala or the Compassion mala, and I told her a bit of the description of each, and she said that I needed a lot more help with protection from negative thoughts than I needed help generating compassion. I took that as a huge compliment since kindness and compassion are the highest of virtues in my opinion, so to have the closest person in the world to me tell me that I'm very kind and compassionate already really touched my heart. But I definitely could use protection from negative thoughts. I guess most of us could! Anyway, there's only four in the world and I just got one of them, so hurry if you think you might want one!
