The naga/conch shell is one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols and represents the fame of the Buddha's teaching which spreads in all directions like the sound of the conch trumpet.  It is a symbol which fearlessly proclaims the truth of the dharma.

One of the most well-known and worshipped deities, Ganesh is known as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences, and the deity of intellect and wisdom.  Because he is honored as the god of beginnings, keeping this conch near you will assure for a peaceful environment for undertaking new endeavors without obstacles.
