Heart Sutra Singing Bowl

6 reviews   |
  • Handcrafted by 4th and 5th generation singing bowl artisans in the Kathmandu Valley exclusively for DharmaShop, this singing bowl features the Heart Sutra mantra in Tibetan script.
  • The Heart Sutra is a popular and frequently used sutra in Mahayana Buddhism.  It is a synopsis of the complete spiritual path from delusion, to emptiness, to achievement of supreme enlightenment.
  • These texts are meant to be supports for practice, and the points within them are many to be attained, not merely understood.  It states that, "form is emptiness, and emptiness is form."  In emptiness you will find true enlightenment and nirvana.

The Sanskrit title of the Heart Sutra translates to, "The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom."  Its teachings rely on the perfection of wisdom - the wisdom that allows you to perceive reality directly and without conceptual attachments, thereby achieving enlightenment.  This essential reality, in emptiness, leads to true nirvana.

Hand carved into the exterior of this bowl is the mantra, "Gate, Gate, Paragate, Parasamgate, Bodhi Svaha," which can be translated to, "gone, gone, everyone gone tthe other shore, awakening, svaha."  The Heart Sutra concludes with this mantra.  Interpreted, it represents awakening, going beyond, and achieving complete enlightenment.

Bowl rings at about a C note when struck with a woolen mallet.  This resonates with the Root Chakra, which is situated at the base of or tail end of the spine.  It is the foundation of the physical body; it stimulates vital forces throughout our body and assists in keeping us grounded to the earth.  Because each bowl is handmade, the note may vary slightly from bowl to bowl.

Measures approximately 10 inches in diameter and is about 4.25 inches deep.  Cushion sold separately.

Sounds great and recorded with ouHandcrafted Red Wool Mallet!

This bowl still amazes me

This bowl in particular quickly became my one of my favorite tones. I truly believe this bowl is the most underpriced out of the many I have purchased from dharmashop. I love and support what you guys are doing as a small buisness supporting tibet and the Nepalese artisans. These bowls bring me so much peace just seeing them set up in my room as well as my staff at work. Nobody in my work place had really heard of them until me, and now anytime anyone gets upset I end up finding them in the backroom playing one of the bowls I bring in. Recently purchased my first harvest moon bowl, the tone is so pure. Hope to get one of the bigger ones once I have money set aside for it. For anyone considering purchasing from dharmashop, you can take my word they are trusted and the bowls your receive are of exquisite quality. Listen to each tone they advertise them with to make sure you get the tone thats right for you! Thank you Dharmashop!
