This Medicine Buddha statue is handmade in Kathmandu, Nepal by a 5th generation crafting family. Each statue is made using the lost wax method, which takes considerable time and skill. After bronze casting each statue is hand detailed and carved by master craftsmen. The face is gold painted and the robes are hand tiled.
The Medicine Buddha is always shown with the right hand facing downward with fingers extended toward the ground, which signifies giving a blessing to mankind. The palm is facing outward toward the viewer, and a bowl of herbs rests in the left hand on the lap. Of all Buddhas, the Medicine Buddha is the highest possible model of a healer.
