Small Nepal dZi Bead

3 reviews   |

Few beads are surrounded by as much myth and mystery as the dZi bead (say ZEE). The etched agates are found in Tibet, Bhutan, Ladakh, and Nepal, and are believed to be about two thousand years old. Many legends accompany the beads- that they were not made by man but created by the gods, that they bring luck and ward off evil, that they protect the wearer from physical harm by taking the abuse upon themselves, and that the bead itself will choose its' owner and will not stay with an unlucky person. (To which we can only add, certainly a person is unlucky who loses a dZi at today's prices). All our DZI beads come from India or Nepal, We do not sell beads from China. They are made of a variety of materials, bone, resin or glass depending on the style of bead. But beware we have seen many beads of this quality sold recently as 'ancient'.
Size:about 3/4-1 1/4 inches long. Etched bone.

lovely to add to a wrist mala when creating your own

Very nice for a small price.

This is my first dzi bead... It's a very nice, little dzi for what you get(depending on how the random pattern may fit one's taste). Even though it's not an agate dzi, it's still nicely decorated and made very well made from bone(I'm guessing from Yak or water buffalo). * Also; I'd recommend this to anyone wondering if a dzi bead will stay with them before purchasing a more expensive one--given this is your first time searching for a dzi bead.
